About

Partially Domesticated House Husband

Mostly Retired Engineer

Tinkerer Extraordinaire

Life doesn't always go as planned.  You recover from an injury and think nothing of it.  Life keeps going and you keep moving forward and progressing.  Then out of nowhere, that insignificant injury decides to become quite significant many years after it was forgotten about.  After years of recovery, re-injure, recovery, re-injure, etc...you finally get stabilized and find that you're far from where you started.  These days, you'll find me mostly in my one small corner of this large world.  I'll be cooking something tasty, taking care of the dogs, designing some small part or piece of art or both, or most likely tinkering with some random idea that I had.

Progressing

Having graduated from college with a degree in mechanical engineering, I started my professional career as a naval officer in various engineering roles.  After leaving the Navy, I continued my engineering in the civilian and public sector in multiple different industries and obtained my professional engineer license in 2011.

Transitioning

In 2018, things changed rapidly.  One of the many injuries sustained earlier in life suddenly became a very big problem.  After surgery and recovery, it seemed things might hold together enough to keep progressing how I had been with minimal changes.  That definitely didn't happen.  Multiple surgeries, recoveries, and a move across the continent later, I found myself involuntarily retired and living in Florida.

Stabilizing

Nocatee, Florida is flat, level, there's no snow, and there are wide pathways.  Perfect for someone like me to be able to get around at least a little bit.  We designed the house to eliminate tripping hazards and included some universal design concepts for accessibility.  Someplace that I can actually be and do.

Creating

Being stable, but still not able to work a regular or consistent schedule doesn't work well in the modern world as an engineer.  Fortunately, I kept some of my tools and equipment I had gathered over the years, and then I bought some more tools and equipment.  I always felt that engineering needed to have an artistic side, but how about making art with an engineering side included?

Engaging

Progressed through education and experience.

Transitioned through hardship.

Stabilized into a new style of living.

Creating things with form and function.

Now it's time to engage.

What do you want to accomplish?  Have an idea that you don't know where to start or you don't know how to get to the next step?  Need to create a one off, custom, or conceptual idea?  Let's talk about it and see if we can create your vision.
